The DBI-Virtuhcon GmbH is participating in the research project “InnoTeam Bio2H₂.” A new technology for the production and storage of hydrogen from biogenic residues and waste materials is to be developed. DBI-Virtuhcon GmbH is developing a thermochemical conversion route that enables the production of hydrogen and other basic chemicals (e.g., methanol, olefins, and methane) from sewage sludge and other biogenic residues and waste materials.
The project has a duration of two years (2025–2027) and is funded by the European Social Fund and the Free State of Saxony within the framework of the InnoTeam directive.
Advanced material development for arc plasma-assisted production of hydrogen-containing syngas for clean energy utilization (ArcAMAT)
Challenge: Within plasma-assisted gasification of waste, particularly using steam plasma for hydrogen production, high electrode erosion rates lead to uneconomical plant operating times.
Transfer and utilization of the plasma technology to be developed: Development of advanced electrode materials with high mechanical and chemical resistance in order to reduce electrode erosion under the influence of the electric arc and reactive gases. In addition, new electrode geometries with a monolithic three-dimensional structure are being developed and manufactured using additive processes to achieve improved heat transfer during water cooling of the electrodes and to minimize thermally induced degradation of the electrodes.
Partners: AGH University of Krakow, DTU Technical University of Denmark und IEC der TU Freiberg
